Product Description
Play Guitar with Ross Bolton is a Windows CD-ROM that teaches basic guitar. Beginning with the essential elements of the guitar itself, the lessons then turn to playing techniques, presented in four main sections: open-position chords, open-position melodies, movable chords and movable melodies. Each playing lesson is followed by an original tune that uses the techniques that were just learned. At the conclusion of each main section, you'll learn to play one of four famous songs: Your Song by Elton John, Rumble by Link Wray, Proud Mary by John Fogerty or Rebel Rouser by Duane Eddy.
Learn the essential elements of the guitar. Start by learning the parts of the guitar, numbering systems (finger, string and fret numbers), note names and how to tune-up.
Play Songs. Play Guitar has a linear progression, with songs, ranging from blues and rock to folk and ballads, following each chord or scale lesson. This step-by-step approach will teach you to play a 12-bar blues after the first chord lesson.
Learn basic chords and scales. The playing lessons begin with the simplest open position chords, then the simplest scale pattern. From there, you'll learn how these basic shapes can be moved to other frets to create new chords and scales, and to play in different keys. Throughout the CD, chord diagrams in each chord lesson display the fingerings and play the sounds of the chords.
Learn basic playing techniques. The songs use basic rhythm and strumming patterns. The melody lessons teach the most common soloing technique: alternate picking.
Play with the Band. Each major section ends with learning the note-for-note version of a full song. These song lessons include music videos of a band playing the tune. The second audio track can be selected to mute the guitar. By playing along, you advance toward the goal of every aspiring musician: to play with a band!
Sharpen your playing skills with the animated fretboard.Play Guitar includes a unique playing tool, the animated fretboard, which is used to play the songs, scales and exercises. The animated fretboard displays dots with finger numbers on a fretboard graphic, synchronized with the sound of the PC's synthesizer playing the guitar and accompaniment. You can adjust the tempo to slow down or speed up the track, loop the whole song or several bars for repetition, or use a mixer panel to mute the guitar or any other instrument.
Learn music theory. The basic elements of melody, harmony, rhythm and notation are taught through the use of animations, including note and rest values, triplets, shuffles, scales, triads, chords, and much more
Play with the Band Each major section ends with a complete song to play with the band: Your Song, Rumble, Proud Mary or Rebel Rouser. When you're ready to jam, mute the guitar track and you can sit-in with the band.
Animated Fretboard Finger numbers inside dots displayed on a fretboard, along with tablature, make it easy for you to learn to play. Adjust the tempo. Loop a measure or the whole song. Even choose the fretboard view that you like best. The animated fretboard is an indispensable new tool for learning to play.
