Ear training for all musicians

EarMaster will challenge all trained and untrained ears. It is for all vocalists and musicians playing guitar, piano, bass, drums, flute or any other instrument. The broad range of exercise areas in EarMaster covers all your needs for training pitch, harmonies and rhythms. EarMaster includes exercises in identifying intervals, scales and modes, chords, chord inversions, chord progressions. You will also find exercises in transcribing melodies and rhythms, and in reading or imitating rhythms.

Highly interactive

EarMaster gives instant visual and audio feedback on everything you do. You can interact with EarMaster using the staff or multiple- choice, or using one of the onscreen instruments: piano, guitar, bass, violin, cello, banjo and more. With a microphone you can sing, clap or even play your answers on your favorite instrument. EarMaster also supports MIDI input from for example a keyboard.

Monitor your progress

EarMaster provides you with detailed information on your progress. Have my ear improved at identifying e.g. the minor 7th chord within the past 2 weeks? Do I answer faster? How much time did I spend training my ears in the past month? EarMaster provides all this information for you.

Exercise areas in EarMaster

EarMaster offers 10 advanced ear training exercises in Intervals, Chords, Scales, Melodies and Rhythms. All exercises are developed together with music teachers and other music professionals. Each exercise will improve different areas of your musical ear and, together, they will develop greater musicality, confidence and enjoyment of music!

Intervals

Once you get the hang of intervals, it will be easier to transcribe songs, compose songs or tuning your guitar. It will help you figure out the melody of a song based on the intervals: "Oh, that's just a perfect fourth followed by a minor third". EarMaster has two exercises that will help you with just that:

Interval singing - NEW

EarMaster plays a tone and ask you to sing or play an interval above or below this tone. Example: A tone (D) is being played and EarMaster says: "Sing the perfect fifth above D".
You can also use this exercise to learn to spell intervals. If you answer the question using one of the other answer input methods, then this exercise becomes an "Interval spelling" exercise.

Interval comparison

EarMaster plays two intervals; you answer which one is larger. This exercise does not require any knowledge about notes and music theory. Therefore is it an excellent starting point for beginners.

Interval identification

EarMaster plays an harmonic or melodic interval, you identify it by its name or transcribe the tones on either the piano, guitar or the notesheet.
